Easy Smoothie Recipes
These 4 recipes are not earth-shattering by any means, they just happen to be our favorites.
They are all basic combinations of:
- banana
- raspberries
- kiwi
- blackberries
- blueberries
- strawberries
- pineapple
- apples
- kale
If I happen to be out of kale I will use spinach. I often make smoothies with milk, but find they are just as good with water. I don’t typically add any additional sweetener like honey or sugar as I find these recipes to be sweet enough on their own. However, everyone’s tastes differ so be sure to try each recipe and adjust to your tastes.
Tips for make-ahead smoothie bags:
Chop any fruit that will blend easier when frozen (such as bananas, kiwi, and pineapple). Some blenders can handle a whole frozen banana, but I find I like the final consistency better when the fruit is all the same size.
Make sure your fruit is rinsed and dry before adding to the freezer-safe bag.
Green Smoothie
Do you love my creative naming abilities? 😂This is one of the easier recipes as it only has 3 ingredients and yields 2 servings:
- 1 cup strawberries
- 1 cup chopped bananas
- 1 cup fresh kale
Place ingredients in a freezer safe bag. Try to get out as much of the air as possible and then seal the bag. Label with date and place into your freezer for up to 3 months.
When you are ready to make the Green Smoothie:
Place contents of the bag into a blender and add 1 cup (up to 3 cups depending on the consistency you prefer) of the liquid of your choice. We use milk and water, some folks like yogurt (you may need to add additional water) or almond milk. Mix on high (my Wolf Blender has a Smoothie setting which runs for 45 seconds) until ingredients are completely incorporated smooth. Serve immediately.
Pink Smoothie
This is one of the easier recipes as it only has 3 ingredients and yields 2 servings:

- 1 cup chopped bananas
- 1 cup sliced kiwi

Apple Banana Smoothie
Love the color and flavor of this delicious smoothie recipe. There are more ingredients in this one than the others so it will provide more servings. This one is about 3 servings.
- 1 cup bananas
- 1 cup raspberries
- 1 cup chopped apple (I do not peel)

Place ingredients in a freezer safe bag. Try to get out as much of the air as possible and then seal the bag. Label with the date and place into your freezer for up to 3 months.

Tips for How to Make Smoothies
Know your sweeteners. I use banana in most of these recipes as the sweetener, but you could also add honey or (heaven forbid) a little sugar. My best advice is to try the recipe as is and add more banana if you want it sweeter.
Make sure your blender can handle lots of frozen fruit! If you know your blender struggles, try setting the frozen fruit out an hour before you want to make it.
Look for ripe fruit on sale. I buy bananas in huge batches (often cheaper when they are very ripe) and like to buy large quantities from Costco. Then I can plan an hour to cut up fruit, make up the individual bags, and store in the freezer.
What are the Best Liquids to Add?
My first choice is water, of course! 🙂 But here are a few more that work great in smoothies.
- Milk and milk alternatives (soy, almond, oat, etc.)
- Juices (orange, grape, apple, etc.)
- Seltzer
- Coconut Water
