I Just Updated Ios On My Iphone / Watchos On My Watch And Things Stopped Working
How to Fix Sleep Mode Not Working on Apple Watch after watchOS 7?
The most common problems are updating Watch without updating iPhone, Updating iPhone without Watch, or doing automatic updates. Even doing things properly, there are some Apple Health synch bugs where system services are not correctly started after an update. Step 4 below usually fixes those.
When updating iPhone or Watch, here’s what’s important.
1. Never, ever do automatic updates. They break things.
2. Always update your iPhone first. This is in iPhone Settings, General, Software Update.
3. Then update your Watch. This is in “Watch” app , General, Software Update.
4. When the update has finished, power both devices off and back on again.
Power the iPhone and Watch off and on as per these links.
i.e. Shut down completely and restart.
In most cases, everything should now be just fine.
If not, then the update may have removed health permissions. Yes, honestly, they do this sometimes. You can resolve that problem below in the respective sections for each app.
Finally, in extremely rare cases, the update can corrupt the Watch’s pairing to iPhone. You can solve that problem by unpairing then re-pairing as a NEW WATCH per this link:
Solution : Turn Off Wrist Detection
I have already discussed that Apple Watch only shows notifications when you are wearing it, however this can cause problems like notifications not going to Apple Watch if there is sensor problem. Fortunately you can disable Wrist Detection if you have faulty or damaged back sensor. This is how you can do it:
Go to Watch app on your iPhone
Now tap Passcode then turn off switch in front of Wrist Detection
- Confirm selection, one thing must be noted here if you disable Wrist protection then your Apple Watch won’t automatically lock.
Why Does My Apple Watch Only Show The Time
Your Apple Watch only shows the time because its in Power Reserve mode. When an Apple Watch is in Power Reserve mode, it shows nothing but the time in the upper right-hand corner of the watch face.
To kick your Apple Watch out of Power Reserve, press and hold the side button. Release the side button as soon as you see the Apple logo in the center of the watch face.
Give your Apple Watch a minute to turn back on it can sometimes take awhile to get out of Power Reserve. Take a look at my other article if your Apple Watch has been stuck on the Apple logo for more than a few minutes.

Sleep Data Is Modest And Not Particularly Actionable
Apples sleep tracking app interface is simple. Tell it your preferred bedtime schedule in my case, 11 p.m. to just before 6 a.m. and it will be looking out for sleep during those times . It turns out that you must set up tracking schedules to cover each individual day of the week or use separate schedules for weekdays and weekends. I didnt realize until too late that the Watch hadnt recorded data for two full nights because I hadnt set up a separate weekend schedule to cover them.
Assuming the Watch gathers your data properly, youll see a very modest display of data, including a bar representing your total time asleep, the timestamps indicating sleep start and end points, and a bar chart covering the last 14 days. If you want a deeper dive, you can open the Health app on an iPhone to see your average time in bed and average time asleep and under some conditions, a correlation of your overnight heart rate data with your sleeping schedule. When I checked the Health app, one day the heart rate data was there, but another day it disappeared from the apps list of Highlights and I couldnt find it.
Apple has suggested its providing little data to keep users from obsessing over their sleep schedules, as that might inadvertently generate even more anxiety or restlessness. Im still not sure whether thats truly an act of kindness or just a convenient excuse for underwhelming functionality.
Where Has My Data Gone
If you have updated AutoSleep and are not seeing your history anymore, then this is due to Apple Health permissions. You can fix it with these steps:
Go into the iPhone Settings app on your iPhone. Choose Privacy, Health. Press HeartWatch and then press all categories off.
Power the iPhone off and on as per this link. .
Power the Watch off and on as per this link.
Now in iPhone Settings, Privacy, Health, HeartWatch press all categories on. Make sure that all the switches are turned on.
Now go into HeartWatch iPhone app.
Press the little cog on the top row.
Select Advanced Settings.
Select Rebuild History.

Wearable Battery Life Remains The Biggest Problem
Ever since the first Apple Watch arrived in 2015, Apple has stuck to the same battery life guarantee: 18 hours of run time between charges. The actual number can be much lower if you use the watch to make long phone calls, constantly download data, or track extended runs or workouts. But on the other hand, the latest Apple Watches quietly exceed the 18-hour promise if you disable or only lightly use their new features. Regardless, Apples guideline was simple: Put the watch on your wrist each morning, dont worry about battery life all day, then place it on a charger each night, and repeat ad infinitum.
Given that the company has had five years to prepare for the addition of sleep tracking which obviously requires users to wear their Watch overnight Apple could have boosted battery life any year with a bigger housing or more power-efficient parts to enable multiday run times. Some competitors have made those choices, relying heavily on longer run times to differentiate their devices. Apple instead decided to market its way around design compromises, recently floating the idea that users should recharge their Watches during morning showers.

Check If You Enabled Sleep Mode
Its a little confusing since Fitbit offers a lot of features that include the word sleep.
To be clear, sleep mode is different than sleep tracking!
With sleep mode, your Fitbit turns off your screen while also muting things like notifications and other functions so you can get a good nights sleep.
Unfortunately, its easy to turn on Sleep mode on your Fitbit unintentionally!
And when its on, you disable your screen from waking automatically when you lift your wrist.
Plus, it dims your screen, so even if you tap your screen awake or use the side button to wake it, your screen may be difficult to see.
Not all Fitbits include Sleep Modecurrently, this feature is available on the Luxe, Inspire 2, Charge 3/4/5, Sense, and Versa Series.

Question: Q: Nightstand Mode Stays On
I’ve got an Apple Watch Sport and ever since upgrading it to watchOS 4 when I put it on the charger at night Nightstand mode won’t switch off. This both disturbs my sleep and slows charging to a crawl of course. This did not happen when running watchOS 3.
The solution I’ve found is to take it off the charger, shut the Watch down and restart it, then put it back on the charger and Nightstand mode then works fine. Until the following night when the process needs to be repeated…
Another issue I noticed while doing this is that I can’t shut it down when it’s on the charger long-pressing the side button brings up the power off & emergency SOS screen but the sliders are disabled and cannot be operated. I don’t know if this is how it used to work in previous releases as I’d never tried to restart the watch on the charger before. Take it off the charger and long-press the side button and I can shut it down normally.
Anyone else experiencing this problem with watchOS 4?

Make Sure To Set Your Mouse And Keyboard To Wake Up The Computer
If you do manage to bring out your computer from the sleep mode with the use of the above workaround, there is something that you can do to ensure that this would not happen again. You have to allow your mouse and keyboard to wake up your computer from sleep mode by making some changes in your computer settings. This can be done by simply following the steps below.
Apples Wind Down Is Better Than Its Sleep Tracking
Though Im not thrilled with the sleep tracking functionality, Apple did a nice job with a related set of watchOS 7 and iOS 14 features called Wind Down. Rather than just telling you how much you slept, Wind Down provides a holistic approach to weaning you off your phone at night, softly encouraging you to settle down before a full Do Not Disturb regime kicks in.
If you prefer to use apps to relax, you can create iOS shortcuts specific to settling down, such as turning on a music playlist or podcast, opening an app for reading or journaling, or accessing apps for yoga and meditation. These shortcuts will appear on the iPhones Lock Screen so youre reminded to use them, and you can also initiate a watchOS Wind Down sleep mode that begins however many minutes you prefer before your scheduled bedtime.
These kinds of features may seem simple to implement, but theyre actually thoughtful, OS-level integrations that show how sleep tracking functionality could become part of a larger sleep management experience for some users. I might want to keep using Wind Down even in the absence of sleep tracking.
